What's on the nightstand

Dog-eared paperbacks and a running, honest list of what I've actually finished.

Five books I didn't want to end

Not every book earns this list — most get abandoned around page 60. These five didn't. A mix of quiet literary fiction, one memoir that wrecked me, and a poetry collection I keep pulling back off the shelf months later.

What they have in common isn't genre, it's that none of them rushed. Sentences worth rereading, characters who take their time, endings that don't wrap up too neatly. I finished each one slower than I needed to, on purpose.

How I built a reading nook for under $150

A secondhand armchair, a floor lamp with a warm bulb, a small side table for tea, and a stack of library books — that's the whole recipe. Here's exactly where each piece came from and why a good reading corner matters more than a big bookshelf.

The lighting is the part people skip and shouldn't: warm, low, and angled so you can read without glare. Everything else is just an excuse to sit still for an hour.
